Basic Inland SAR Course

Houghton, MISuperior Search & Rescue in collaboration with the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) provided a training opportunity in our region. The 2-day Basic Inland SAR Course, which took place on June 14 and 15, aimed to educate agency personnel from various jurisdictions about the federal resources available for search and rescue missions. The training covered tools and techniques that can be used in local search and rescue operations.

On the first day of the course, trainers from AFRCC presented information on the different federal resources that can be utilized in search and rescue missions. This gave attendees a comprehensive understanding of the available tools and how they can be effectively employed in their local regions.

The second day of the training involved a tabletop missing plane exercise, where teams were divided into groups to work on a simulated scenario. This exercise provided hands-on experience and allowed participants to apply the knowledge and skills they learned during the course. Tabletop exercises are valuable for testing response strategies, communication protocols, and decision-making processes in a controlled environment.

Collaboration and knowledge-sharing among agencies are crucial in enhancing search and rescue capabilities, as it ensures a coordinated and effective response during emergency situations.

Overall, the Basic Inland SAR Course, facilitated by AFRCC and hosted by Superior Search & Rescue, has been a valuable training experience for all the participants involved. Such initiatives contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of search and rescue operations within our region.
