Monthly Field Exercise

On January 22, members of Superior Search & Rescue braved the cold winter day on training skills in land navigation, sign recognition, SAR operations, de-escalation/public interaction and first aid. This start will help members gain new skills needed for being in the field. Taking what was learned from the online training and classroom section of Phase I, members proceeded to use skills learned for the field.

Superior Search & Rescue invited Trish and Callie from the Michigan Tech Theater Department for adding a much needed dose of reality to the training. We will be looking forward to working together on future endeavors. Thank you to both of you for joining us and helping our team.

Our team was also joined by Deputy Tchida, our new SAR liaison, with the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office who provided insight for de-escalation skills and provided input into our operations. Deputy Tchida brought along the HCSO Snowmobile and allowed for us to practice a recovery of an injured person.

Thank you also to the Lake Linden School for allowing us to use the school forest for our training this month.
